How much does a celebrant wedding cost?

Good question

My wedding ceremonies start at £750, with three different options depending on how much support you want, what you have in mind and how much involvement you need in the run up to your day.

But before we get to the numbers, it’s probably worth explaining what you’re actually paying for and why a celebrant ceremony is completely different to a registrar wedding.

(Spoiler alert… it’s a different price because you’re getting something totally different.)

Every word. Written about you. By me.

There’s no ceremony template sitting on my laptop waiting for me to swap your names into it. And I don’t just jump in with some standard paragraphs…

I get to know you properly. We have deep-dive meetings. I ask a lot of questions. I listen to the stories, I watch how you are together, I find out about your family, I want to know what your friends say about you. I want to know how you want this to feel.

Then I write your ceremony.

Every word of it.

And we work on it together until it sounds right.

I’ll help you choose readings if you want them. I’ll help with vows if starting to get something on paper feels impossible. We can rehearse everything beforehand. And on the wedding day itself, I’m there making sure the ceremony we’ve spent all that time creating actually happens the way we planned it.

What actually goes into the written ceremony?

Everything really and a bit more.

I work out the logistics of who needs to be where and when (I love an Entrance diagram so you can see who is going to end up where).

I handle the opening announcements – things like popping phones away, what to do with the confetti on your chair, where you’re heading after. And all in a way that naturally feels happy, welcoming and inclusive… not like some head teacher giving out rules.

Then there’s your entrance. The big welcome. Readings. Your story. Promises and vows. Your ring exchange. Rituals, if you’re into them. A commemorative certificate, if you’d like one.

And then the bit where we properly celebrate the fact you’ve just done it – kiss, cheer, huge round of applause, whatever feels like you – before sending you back up the aisle.

We make sure that the ceremony feels like you, makes your family and friends feel part of what’s happening and shows the world what this means.

Turns out, that takes quite a lot of work.

Which ceremony feels right for you?

Whichever one you choose, your ceremony is written about you, by me. Every, single, word.

Plus, you get me on the day.

The difference really is around how much help you want writing vows, choosing readings, designing things specifically for you… and how much rehearsal time you want.

But you’re only here for 30 minutes?

Your guests might think so.

You’ll know better.

On the wedding day, I normally arrive around two hours before the ceremony. I want time to speak to the venue, check everything is where it needs to be, find the important people, sort any last-minute changes and make sure nobody is having a minor meltdown in a corridor.

Before that, there have been meetings, writing, rewriting, emails, vows, rehearsal planning, printing and all the tiny details that nobody notices because they’ve been thought about and sorted.

So yes, your guests see me for half an hour and may briefly conclude I have discovered the greatest hourly rate known to humankind.

Sadly, not.

A registrar wedding is a standard service, any personalisation you have, is done by you. The charge from the council is for paperwork, room hire, or for them to be at your venue for the hour.
